The 4th and Final Blog of One Flew over the Cuckoo's Nest!!!...

This is the fourth and final blog of the book One Flew over the Cuckoo’s Nest. In the end Nurse Ratched leads Billy, leading to his suicide, McMurphy becomes a Christ figure for the patients in the ward. McMurphy makes a sacrifice to make sure that Ratched can’t use Billy’s death to undo everything they have gained. Though the nurse tries to give McMurphy a fate worse than death, Bromden dignifies McMurphy by killing him, which means he would always be a symbol of resistance to the patients of the hospital ward.

I think this book was very interesting. The characters are what made it most interesting. Also, Nurse Ratched because you really never knew what she was going to do next. Bromden and McMurphy also gave much foreshadowing of the story for example McMurphy starting to feel weak in part three of this book.

I enjoyed reading the story and having class discussions about each Part of this book. Also by reading it aloud in the classroom that gave me a good look on what was going on and questions that were asked.

PART 3 of One Flew over the Cuckoo's Nest!!..~

In Part Three of One Flew over the Cuckoo’s Nest, It started to get really interesting and more into detail. The Rebellion of McMurphy grows as the patients begin to betray Ratched in their own ways. Ratched is being reminded that she has not fully brainwashed McMurphy and that he is stronger than she thought he would be. McMurphy does not think of Ratched as a high power like she would like to be known as. The only way for the nurse, who is Ratched, to get her mind off of her power over him which isn’t going so well is to continue to scare the patients at the ward.
Bromden becomes stronger as he has conversations with McMurphy and without him realizing it he is becoming more of an individual. All of the patients in the ward are still being mistreated. McMurphy is the only one who knows Bromdens secret. This secret is about Bromden and how he isn’t really dumb and deaf. McMurphy continues to lead the patients in the right direction at the ward.
McMurphy also composed notes for the nurse to find in the latrine with her mirror. He wrote long outlandish tales about himself in the logbook and signed them Anonymous. Sometimes he slept till eight o’clock and she would reprimand him but he would destroy her whole effect and make her mad. The responsibilities of the patients start to wear McMurphy down. I think this might be a foreshadowing of what will happen in the long run.
These are some of the main points I wanted to talk about and show that this is the main part of the book, which gets into the characters inner feelings. McMurphy is starting to be overwhelmed with all of the patients and this could have something to do with past experiences of him.

Part two of One Flew over the Cuckoo's Nest..!!

In part two of One Flew over the Cuckoo’s Nest everyone tries not to give all their attention to the Nurse, but to try and stay focused on their protest although they are missing the Series. After Nurse Ratched goes to the meeting room to see what she will to with McMurphy. Chief Bromden is allowed to go into the room but he is supposedly unable to hear what is being said because of his conditions. Since McMurphy is reliable the Nurse knows that she can boss him around and can say how long she wants him to stay at the Hospital.

This brings me to Nurse Ratched. Nurse Ratched is a big character in this book. She is head of the mental ward and is a former army nurse. She is very strict and runs the place in her rules and ways that she wants it to be. She has control over the patients in the mental hospital and weakens and strengthens them to where they are confused as to what is going on. In being in her presence you can see her control and how she works the place to her advantage.

I wrote about Nurse Ratched to get a more clear understanding of this section. Without knowing who and what the main characters do it’s not easy to understand, but when you do know the main facts of the characters for example in this part two Nurse Ratched, its easier to comprehend the overview of the section. Nurse Ratched’s actions are harsh to the patients but that doesn’t stop her. McMurphy soon learns of her true responsibilities and rulings over the mental hospital. McMurphy tries to explain to some patients about their knowledge and how her power is always present.

Part One of One Flew over the Cuckoo's Nest!..

In Part One of One Flew over the Cuckoo’s Nest it introduces the narrator of this book who is Chief Bromden. He narrates in first person. He tells us this story as he continues to think about his personal story. He suffers from paranoia and has Hallucinations. He has been in the Mental Hospital longer than any of the other patients there. For his problem, he has to get treatments to help him. In the beginning he tells all about the mental ward and the situations that are occurring all around.

His paranoia is seen when some of the patients in the mental hospital are treated unfairly. Although I was confused at first I realized after that all the crazy stories he was telling where his hallucinations and what was going on around him. The fog represents the weakness of the patients and how they have to deal with their situations. Or also that could mean his mental state of mind and how much medication he was on.

Chief Bromden as he narrates is sort-of unclear and faint because he keeps on mentioning his problem. It’s almost like he sees all the people around him like a different force that is trying to be fixed to fit who they are. His mind runs away with him and he sees everything differently. His dreams and his thoughts show how he thinks and how his Hallucinations and Paranoia affect him.

In all Chief Bromden has problems that affect him mostly mentally. For example, he claims that he is very weak but in all reality he is strong. Its his mind that makes him weak just because he thinks that way.

Hamlet at the Lantern Theater

Me and my fellow classmates last week went to go see the play Hamlet at the Lantern Theater. It gave me a way clearer understanding on the parts of Hamlet that confused me. It also gave me a different way to look at the parts of the play that i already understood.
Some of the Characters really matched the book characters in how they acted and were portrayed. Hamlet did a great job in getting his points across. Also by making the audience really feel the emotion he was feeling by how he acted and spoke. Some of the other characters for example, Rosencrantz and Guildenstern, had costumes that were more modern time.
The girl that played Ophelia did a good job in making her seem insain and like she was going crazy. Even though the costume she was wearing dident really match the true play and what she would really wear, she made it beliveable that everything going on with Hamlet was making her break down.
It was unique in how the stage was set up and how their were so many entrances and exits.
Overall, it was good to see the play Hamlet and how the characters really helped us understand the meaning of what the play is about and how each character really acts.

Act II

Act II Scene ii

In this blog I decided to pick out a certain part of Act II and explain it and my opinion on what is happening.

In the beginning of this Act it starts off when Guildenstern and Rosencrantz are greeted by Gertrude and her husband Claudius. Guildenstern and Rosencrantz are Hamlets good friends. But lately Hamlet has been acting different and Claudius and Gertrude want to know what is exactly going on. They want his good friends to secretly find out what’s wrong with Hamlet by asking him in a way that he wont realize he is giving away information about himself. When Rosencrantz and Guildenstern meet with Hamlet they simply say, “How are you Hamlet and how is everything?” But Hamlet is suspicious and when he asks them why they have come they simply say they are just there to visit him. Hamlet knows that the King and Queen have sent for him and when he asks the two men they give in and tell him, yes. The King And Queen sent them to him themselves. Hamlet is always sad anymore and has lost all of his good and happy qualities.

This certain part of Act II stood out for me. I think it starts the beginning of Hamlets madness and how he begins to go all crazy on everyone. It shows how he is smart though to know exactly what his friends Rosencrantz and Guildenstern were up to. They didn’t want to hurt Hamlets feelings they just wanted the true and honest story of what was wrong with him. Even though it might have not been the right thing to do, they had to because it was under the King and Queens orders.

In class, my group and me a few weeks ago acted out this very scene of the play. We made the character Hamlet seem carefree and willing and the two friends Rosencrantz and Guildenstern to seem sneaky but telling Hamlet that they are his friends and he can tell them anything. By acting out this part of Hamlet it made it more clearly about the characters and how they are being portrayed.

I thought that we made a little bit of a different interpretation on these characters then what they really are and how they acted in the play. But, It’s a good idea to understand different parts of the story by making it more of how you will understand it based with the same thing thats happening and maybe even comparing their situation with a present situation that is going on in the world or just a situation in general.

Hamlet Act I Scenes i and ii

In Act 1 Scene I of Hamlet, Bernardo, Marcellus, and Horatio watch the royal castle of Elsinore in Denmark. They seem to think there is a ghost of old Hamlet who is the former King of Denmark. They are visited by the ghost, but no words spoken. All of them go and tell the son hamlet that they saw the ghost of his father. Shakespeare seems to call into question the limits of our own beliefs and what can be seen and said and what we think is normal for others to see. I think that he does this to make us think more about what if this really did happen and how those of us would react and the true feelings and beliefs behind it. I think this is also hard for the prince because they are saying they have seen the ghost of his father and he is now in between all of the confusion. In moving on in scene II Claudius the king, the morning after Horatio sees the ghost, thanks his subjects for their assistance in the ceremonies at his brother’s funeral and his own marriage to his brother’s widow and the mother of prince Hamlet, Gertrude. He sends agents to the King of Norway to urge him to control his nephew Fortinbras. It is said that he will be invading Denmark. The big part of this scene is when Hamlet reveals his anger that his uncle and mother have recently married and he is very angry and upset about it. He can’t believe what is going on. In my opinion I think he has the right to be mad and confused and show his feelings. In this part of the book I think Shakespeare is trying to catch the readers attention by putting a twist to the story and making it less able to be concluded then the reader thinks. These are my thoughts and opinions on the first two scenes in Act 1 of The Tragedy of Hamlet.

Gulliver's Travels

a.
-What is the target of Swift's satire in Gulliver's Travels?
-Is there a similarity in that size of the Lilliputians and the way he wants us to guess there behavior?
-What is the tone of the story?
-What made him or inspired him to write this story?

b.
Working in groups is sometimes easier because you can listen to the other opinions and expand your way of thinking. It helps if everyone has their say and contributes to the group.

c.
Planning out the questions and what the group will say is important so we will always know what were talking about and will have everything planned and organized for the rest of the class to understand.

Ozymandias

1. In this poem the topic is Egypt inspired by egyptian fragments. Ozymandias is the Greek name for Ramses II. Shelley suggests narrative frames in this poem. The Sculptor is one of the speakers who says, " Which yet survive, stamped on these lifeless things, the hand that mocked them, and heart that fled."This shows his feeling of attitude. Another speaker is the traveler. He says, "Two vast and trunkless legs of stone stand in the dessert. The last speaker is the King of Kings who says,"Look on my works, ye Mighty and despair. Nothing beside remains. Even in this brief space of a sonnet there are many speakers.

Kubla Khan

9. The power of the imagination is often exalted in Romantic Poetry. This poem is a vivid yet incomprehensible dream. I think it questions the limits of our imagination. Alliteration is used in this poem to show the mood. It is also full of mystery in this poem. Different descriptive words help us imagine and create pictures of whats happening in this dream in the poem Kubla Khan.

The Chimney Sweeper

Answering the two questions on The Chimany Sweeper:

1.) Yes. I agree with the editors of the textbook that blakes poetry had the power to enact social change by appealing to the imagination of the reader. The poem from songs of innocence features a child speaker who tries to cheer himself and his fellow Chimney sweep with thought that oppression and poverty they endure will be compensated for by endless joy in heaven. The songs of expierence poem is a childs expierience and when he is asked the question of where his parents are. Romantic poets hoped to bring about change through theie poetry guided by imagination. I think its a big part in thier writings and shows how they expand their ways of thinking which is why i say yes about their poetry enacting change. Also it gives the readers a different perspective of the imagination.

2.) Editors have included the parliament transcript as a primary source document. I think this is because it impacts the poeple. Expecally when people can read it and see the backround of what they are trying to say in their reading. I think he wanted to be different and show some difference and change. This is why i think the editors have included the parliament transcript is placed as a primary source.

1984 Essay

In this passage of the book 1984, O’Brien proclaims to Winston the role of the doctrine in maintaining the system of oligarchical collectivism. Oligarchical Collectivism is an important element in both the plot and the overall theme of this book, which is trying to make a person believe in a certain way of thinking and not being able to think what they want to or whats really right. He states how Winston is not sane and how he has failed in humanity. Also he says how a disciplined mind can only see reality. But is this really true?
I think that he should be able to believe in what he wants to believe in and have his own way of thinking. People that aren’t disciplined can see reality too. He feels that Winston is just doing what he wants and is not following the correct rules of the ruling Party. In his eyes, rules are the rules and you have to follow them and if you don’t then as he states you have failed humanity. Winston must stay strong and not make the Party change his way of thinking.
Basically that’s the plan of the Party to not make you an independent person but to make you believe in what everyone else is believing and to not have your own say in your own opinions or stand up for what’s right. O’Brien says that it is impossible to see reality except by looking through the eyes of the Party. I think this statement is false because reality is something you have to see in your own mind not something you are taught by someone or anything else.
Winston’s ultimate fate is foreshadowed basically through the whole book. The whole time of struggle in believing in his own thoughts has vanished and he goes on to believe in the beliefs of the ruling Party. He states his confusion and his misunderstanding which I think means that he doesn’t really know what to believe anymore.
In conclusion, the role that O’Brien proclaims to Winston in this passage plays in maintaining the system of Oligarchical Collectivism and Winston’s ultimate and true fate at the end of this novel.

In this book 1984 there are many ideas and images that have thematic importance. Some of these symbols include Winston’s paperweight, the St. Clements church picture with the rhyme, and the phrase “the place where there is no darkness. These images represent Winston’s attempts to escape or undermine the oppressive rule of the Party. The picture represents a stolen past and also the Party’s power and betrayal of humanity. The song relates to Winston and Julia’s crazy relationship. Julia is Winston’s lover who claims she had affairs with other ruling Party members. The paperweight symbolizes the past but also has to do with Winston and how he can dream without fear. The phrase above “ the place where there is no darkness” has to do with Winston’s feeling of hope. Another symbol is the prole women singing outside of the window. With Winston being frustrated and desperate to understand how the party has such absolute power, this shows or foreshadows the overthrow of the Party by the working class.
