Part two of One Flew over the Cuckoo's Nest..!!

In part two of One Flew over the Cuckoo’s Nest everyone tries not to give all their attention to the Nurse, but to try and stay focused on their protest although they are missing the Series. After Nurse Ratched goes to the meeting room to see what she will to with McMurphy. Chief Bromden is allowed to go into the room but he is supposedly unable to hear what is being said because of his conditions. Since McMurphy is reliable the Nurse knows that she can boss him around and can say how long she wants him to stay at the Hospital.

This brings me to Nurse Ratched. Nurse Ratched is a big character in this book. She is head of the mental ward and is a former army nurse. She is very strict and runs the place in her rules and ways that she wants it to be. She has control over the patients in the mental hospital and weakens and strengthens them to where they are confused as to what is going on. In being in her presence you can see her control and how she works the place to her advantage.

I wrote about Nurse Ratched to get a more clear understanding of this section. Without knowing who and what the main characters do it’s not easy to understand, but when you do know the main facts of the characters for example in this part two Nurse Ratched, its easier to comprehend the overview of the section. Nurse Ratched’s actions are harsh to the patients but that doesn’t stop her. McMurphy soon learns of her true responsibilities and rulings over the mental hospital. McMurphy tries to explain to some patients about their knowledge and how her power is always present.

Part One of One Flew over the Cuckoo's Nest!..

In Part One of One Flew over the Cuckoo’s Nest it introduces the narrator of this book who is Chief Bromden. He narrates in first person. He tells us this story as he continues to think about his personal story. He suffers from paranoia and has Hallucinations. He has been in the Mental Hospital longer than any of the other patients there. For his problem, he has to get treatments to help him. In the beginning he tells all about the mental ward and the situations that are occurring all around.

His paranoia is seen when some of the patients in the mental hospital are treated unfairly. Although I was confused at first I realized after that all the crazy stories he was telling where his hallucinations and what was going on around him. The fog represents the weakness of the patients and how they have to deal with their situations. Or also that could mean his mental state of mind and how much medication he was on.

Chief Bromden as he narrates is sort-of unclear and faint because he keeps on mentioning his problem. It’s almost like he sees all the people around him like a different force that is trying to be fixed to fit who they are. His mind runs away with him and he sees everything differently. His dreams and his thoughts show how he thinks and how his Hallucinations and Paranoia affect him.

In all Chief Bromden has problems that affect him mostly mentally. For example, he claims that he is very weak but in all reality he is strong. Its his mind that makes him weak just because he thinks that way.

Hamlet at the Lantern Theater

Me and my fellow classmates last week went to go see the play Hamlet at the Lantern Theater. It gave me a way clearer understanding on the parts of Hamlet that confused me. It also gave me a different way to look at the parts of the play that i already understood.
Some of the Characters really matched the book characters in how they acted and were portrayed. Hamlet did a great job in getting his points across. Also by making the audience really feel the emotion he was feeling by how he acted and spoke. Some of the other characters for example, Rosencrantz and Guildenstern, had costumes that were more modern time.
The girl that played Ophelia did a good job in making her seem insain and like she was going crazy. Even though the costume she was wearing dident really match the true play and what she would really wear, she made it beliveable that everything going on with Hamlet was making her break down.
It was unique in how the stage was set up and how their were so many entrances and exits.
Overall, it was good to see the play Hamlet and how the characters really helped us understand the meaning of what the play is about and how each character really acts.

Act II

Act II Scene ii

In this blog I decided to pick out a certain part of Act II and explain it and my opinion on what is happening.

In the beginning of this Act it starts off when Guildenstern and Rosencrantz are greeted by Gertrude and her husband Claudius. Guildenstern and Rosencrantz are Hamlets good friends. But lately Hamlet has been acting different and Claudius and Gertrude want to know what is exactly going on. They want his good friends to secretly find out what’s wrong with Hamlet by asking him in a way that he wont realize he is giving away information about himself. When Rosencrantz and Guildenstern meet with Hamlet they simply say, “How are you Hamlet and how is everything?” But Hamlet is suspicious and when he asks them why they have come they simply say they are just there to visit him. Hamlet knows that the King and Queen have sent for him and when he asks the two men they give in and tell him, yes. The King And Queen sent them to him themselves. Hamlet is always sad anymore and has lost all of his good and happy qualities.

This certain part of Act II stood out for me. I think it starts the beginning of Hamlets madness and how he begins to go all crazy on everyone. It shows how he is smart though to know exactly what his friends Rosencrantz and Guildenstern were up to. They didn’t want to hurt Hamlets feelings they just wanted the true and honest story of what was wrong with him. Even though it might have not been the right thing to do, they had to because it was under the King and Queens orders.

In class, my group and me a few weeks ago acted out this very scene of the play. We made the character Hamlet seem carefree and willing and the two friends Rosencrantz and Guildenstern to seem sneaky but telling Hamlet that they are his friends and he can tell them anything. By acting out this part of Hamlet it made it more clearly about the characters and how they are being portrayed.

I thought that we made a little bit of a different interpretation on these characters then what they really are and how they acted in the play. But, It’s a good idea to understand different parts of the story by making it more of how you will understand it based with the same thing thats happening and maybe even comparing their situation with a present situation that is going on in the world or just a situation in general.
